Laveno-Mombello is enriched by several churches, but two in particular stand out as spiritual fulcrums of the place. The Provost Church of Saints Philip and James, known as the Old Church, has a history that goes back as far as 1315. In that year, there is mention of an ancient chapel in the heart of the village, dedicated to St James. The second, the Church of Sant’Ambrogio, known as the New Church, was built around 1940 to a design by architect Paolo Mezzanotte. It houses frescoes of great artistic value by Innocente Salvini, while the exterior sculptures bear the signature of Egidio Casarotti.<\/span><\/p>\n

Villa De Angeli – Frua<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The historic centre of Laveno-Mombello is enriched by the presence of the magnificent Villa De Angeli Frua, an elegant aristocratic residence dating back to the mid-1700s. Originally built by the wealthy Laveno Tinelli family, the villa changed hands at the end of the 19th century, being acquired by the De Angeli Frua family, whose name it still bears today. Surrounded by a vast botanical park, the villa boasts centuries-old trees and aromatic herbs typical of the region.<\/span><\/p>\n

The entire complex came under the municipal administration of Laveno Mombello and also houses the town’s library, one of the largest in the province of Varese with over 50,000 volumes. As well as being an architectural jewel, Villa De Angeli Frua continues to play a significant role in the cultural life of the local community.<\/span><\/p>\n
